so ben has the hook up on a tint guy who is willing to go cheap. he works out of carter gm on willingdon and lougheed and we'll have to leave our cars there for the day i think.

i don't have word on exact pricing, but the more we get, the cheaper (within reason of course). i think he mentioned that 3 windows will be under $100, and 5 for $130? somehow those numbers ring a bell.

anyway, so far ben, tyson and i are in. anyone else want cheap tint for your car?

i wouldn't mind tint for the back of the rav4. how dark is this tint?

depends on what brand of tint the guy is using.

fynn: i doubt that it's the special metallic tint that you're looking for. probably 3m dye based. i can find out for sure, but since he works out of cater gm, i have a feeling that it's just that.

joel: isn't the rav4 already tinted? you should be able to choose your shade, but i think 50-20% is the norm at a dealership (most go for 20%)

Not metalic, ceramic was the one i used before, but don't feel like paying 400 again.

nope rav4 has no tinting and with no privacy cover for the trunk people can see everything that's inside it.

unless you have a medical condition, i don't see why you'd pay so much for tint (jeff's aunt actually has this, she has to tint all her windows including the windshield lol. it's awesome). if you're worried about fading, then replace it in a couple years and it'll still save you money.

I chose it because I wanted over 50% heat rejection without going to a 20% visible light tint. With my ceramic tint, I have 60% visible light and 58% heat rejection. That is impossible with regular dye based tint.

i found that the tint in the mazda (20%) did nothing in the way of keeping sun off of ryan's face. we still have those shade things.

ok, i finally got an update from ben on this.
apparently his guy can do all our cars in one day, but the problem is that he's going to charge $180 for 5 windows. that doesn't sound cheap to me at all. i don't know if there's a warranty on the work either. this is coming from ben's friend who is talking to this guy (making this FOURTH hand information).

if you guys are still interested in tint, let me know. i know of another guy that does quality work and comes to your house. i only have a phone number so i can call him after you guys are sure you want in or not to see if he'll give a better deal. from what i remember he charges $150 for 5 windows, perhaps cheaper if we have a bunch of people.

i'm out... i think i'll save my money for better things... like a house.. haha

finally got an update on this. i talked to the guy (larry lee, if you're ever on any car forum in the lower mainland, you've heard of him), and he said the prices depend on the car that you drive. some are easier and he's willing to bend a little, but others are harder so the price is firm.

for ben's accord for example (3 windows), he said 130. but for my golf (5 windows) he said 175 and for tyson's golf (7 windows) it'd be 185.
i wasn't sure who else wanted in so i only asked for those cars. if i have an exact count maybe he'll just give me a huge lump sum or something. chances are that i'll go with this guy as he'll come to my house and do it.

so how much for a 2009 rav4 (5 windows, the 3 trunk ones + 2 backseat passengers)?

i think when joyce and i checked for the privacy cover it was something like $500. so hopefully this is the cheaper option.
